Trending Books: July 14th-20th

With summer winding down, time is running out to indulge in a good book. To help you choose your next read we’re back with our weekly trending books list.

This week’s top trending book was Richelle Mead’s Silver Shadows. In this fifth installment of the Bloodlines series, alchemy, tragedy, and love mix in a story that involves both the human and vampire worlds. While Mead’s YA novel is not due out until July 29, young readers have been taking to Twitter to express how much they are looking forward to the new title.

While summer presents time for reading, it also provides a great opportunity for cooking (and of course, eating). For those looking to try their hand at ethnic cuisine, look no further than Andrea Nguyen’s The Banh Mi Handbook: Recipes for Crazy-Delicious Vietnamese Sandwiches. Nguyen provides home cooks with 50 recipes for Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches that include fillings ranging from crispy drunken chicken to coconut curry tofu. Say goodbye to bologna sandwiches.

For those looking for a thriller, Daniel Silva’s The Heist was this week’s top trending mystery/thriller title. In this novel, the bestselling author Silva details one art restorer-turned spy’s mission to recover a stolen Caravaggio piece. And if you’re looking for a celebrity endorsement of Silva’s latest title, we caught Newt Gingrich reading The Heist earlier in the week.

No reading list is complete without an inspiring self-help book so Kim Bearden’s Crash Course: The Life Lessons My Students Taught Me fills the void well. As the title suggests, Bearden, a former teacher, shares the lessons that children can teach us about perseverance, friendship, and other important life skills. Teachers have been tweeting a lot about the book, finding it inspiring and insightful.
