Trending Books, June 30th-July 6th

Eight years ago, writer James Frey made headlines after it came to light that he had fabricated details in his memoir, A Million Little Pieces. Frey was consequently shamed on live television by Oprah Winfrey who said he “betrayed millions of readers.” While readers may remain skeptical of Frey’s credibility, they continue to read his infamous memoir—and tweet about it too, as it is one of this week’s top trending books in the biography and memoir category. Read on to learn what other biographies and memoirs are setting the Twittersphere abuzz.

The top trending biography this week was Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken. The critically acclaimed biography chronicles the life of Louis Zamperini, an American Army aviator who was held as a prisoner of war for more than two and a half years during World War II. Hillenbrand’s book, which was first published in 2010, is once again trending after Zamperini passed away on July 2 at the age of 97.

For those looking to add a memoir to the summer reading list—Joan Rivers’ Diary of a Mad Diva can surely fill that gap. Rivers is as raunchy as ever in this very politically incorrect memoir. We would include an excerpt, but with Rivers’ expletive-laced prose, we didn’t think that would be a good idea.

Edward Klein’s Blood Feud should also stir up quite a bit of controversy. Klein’s account of what he claims to be a tenuous relationship between the Clintons and the Obamas has already been criticized for being poorly sourced. That being said, Klein’s book has found quite a following among Conservatives, who have taken to Twitter to air their grievances about the two powerful Democratic families and the neverending Benghazi scandal.

Coincidentally, Hillary Clinton’s memoir, Hard Choices, was also a top trending book this week in the biography and memoir category. Her book, which details her time as the U.S. Secretary of State, has garnerd mostly positive reviews, though many were disappointed that Clinton provided no hints as to whether or not she would run for president in 2016.
