BookVibe’s Favorite Blogs from BEA 2014 (Part 1 of 2)

A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to attend BookExpo America (BEA), the largest annual publishing event in North America. The event, held this year in New York City, was attended by over 750 authors and 1,000 exhibitors from the publishing industry. In addition to author events and exhibitions, the BEA Bloggers Conference took place. We found out about some great new blogs while attending BEA and decided to share some of our favorites.

BookVibe’s 5 Favorite Book Blogs Discovered at BEA 2014 (with 5 more to come next week):

The Book Wheel:

Described by its author, Allison Hiltz, as a blog for “books, politics, and more,” The Book Wheel features reviews of recent literary fiction and nonfiction works in addition to Alison’s political musings. And we aren’t the only ones who love The Book Wheel—it was named one of the ten best blogs for book lovers last year by Story Cartel.

Blogs featuring YA literature seem to be all the rage right now. Andrea Adams over at The Overstuffed Bookcase does a great job reviewing young adult novels across a variety of genres. We love some of the blogs’s features including “Typecasting,” where Andrea “casts” actors as characters from books that she thinks would make great movie adaptations.

The Book Smugglers:

The Book Smugglers is a blog featuring reviews of speculative fiction and YA. The blog is run by Ana Grilo and Thea James, who were both on the BEA Bloggers Conference Advisory Board. If you’re a fan of Throwback Thursdays, then you’ll love the Book Smugglers’s “Old School Wednesdays” feature, where either Ana or Thea reviews a book that was published at least five years ago.

Silver’s Reviews:

For reviews of historical fiction and mystery titles head over to Elizabeth Petrovich’s Silver’s Reviews. In addition to reviews, the blog has a great giveaways section, which recently featured a contest for a free copy of The Girls at The Kingfisher Club—a novel which has been generating quite a bit of buzz on Twitter.

Dear Author:

Dear Author is a great resource for fans of romance novels. The site is run by Jane Little, who was also a member of the BEA Bloggers Conference Advisory Board. We love the site’s reviews that are written in haiku form.
