Launching “Bookstream of the Week”

Starting this week, we are launching “Bookstream of the Week,” highlighting a bookstream to share with the BookVibe community. Once we select the bookstream of the week, we send the user a free Kindle book. The book gift is chosen from the selections on that user’s personalized book gift ideas (check it out for yourself at www.bookvibe.com/gifts ).

In selecting the bookstream of the week, we are aiming for a healthy mix of users including authors, well-known personalities, avid readers, bloggers, and people who help spread the word about BookVibe. We also welcome nominations for users to highlight, so let us know whose bookstream you think should be highlighted!

For our first ever “Bookstream of the Week”, we’ve selected Kirstin Butler! Kirstin is a writer and self-described “expert generalist”. In addition to writing about books, she’s writing her first novel which sounds intriguing (http://deadsuls.com/). Kirstin’s book stream is a delicious mix of fiction, science, linguistics and politics.

So without further ado, check out our Bookstream of the Week:

We sifted through every book published in 2013 to come up with our list of 2013’s most undiscovered titles.

By taking titles with extremely positive sentiment scores (4 out of 5 stars and above) but without the sales figures or volume of tweets to match, we found books that are massively under-rated and deserve to be discovered by a wider audience.

Last week we showed you the first half of the list, so now without further ado, the top 5 best Undiscovered Books of 2013! And be sure to click the titles to see what people have been saying about the books on twitter!

Undiscovered Books of 2013

We built BookVibe because we love discovering new, unexpected books.

In 2013 we extracted millions of book discussions (with unprecedented precision) and helped people all over the world find great new reads. But what slipped through the cracks?

We used another piece of our technology to find out.

Once we extract a book-related tweet, we analyze the sentiment of those 140 characters to measure readers’ overall opinions about the book. We rate this on a scale of 1-5 stars (you might have seen this on one of our Book pages or on your personal bookstream page).

We noticed that some titles have extremely positive sentiment scores (4 out of 5 stars and above) but don’t have the sales figures or volume of tweets to match. These titles aren’t widely known but have delighted everyone that has read them. We think these books are massively under-rated and deserve to be discovered by a wider audience.

We sifted through every book published in 2013 to come up with our list of 2013’s most undiscovered titles. We’re revealing the first half of the list today and the remainder on Monday.

What do you make of the list? If you’ve read any, do you agree with the high opinion other readers have of them? What else would you have included?
